Meeting in Singapore
On September 29, 2004 HE Ambassador O. Horin called on
HE Mr. Cedric Foo, State Minister of Defence of Singapore.

In course of the  meeting they have  discussed  the ways of
enhancing of the military and technical cooperation between
Ukraine and Singapore.

Meeting in Kiev
On June 15, 2004 H.E. Mr. Valentyn   
Nalyvaichenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign
Affairs  of  Ukraine  has accepted  the  copies of
the Credentials  of  H.E.  Dato Paduka Mahadi
bin Haji Wasli, who is appointed Ambassador
Extraordinary  & Plenipotentiary  of  Brunei
Darussalam to Ukraine (with residence in
Geneva).
Meeting in Nanyang Technological University
On April 22, 2004 H.E. Dr. O. Horin had a fruitful meeting in
Nanyang Technological University. Ambassador met with Prof. Er
Meng Hwa, Deputy President & Dean of the School of Electrical &
Electronic Engineering. The possible ways of enhancing bilateral
cooperation in fields of science & technology were discussed.

Dr. Horin was also briefed on the X-Sat mini-satellite project
developed by NTU researchers under the guidance of Prof. Tan
Soon Hie to be launched by 2006. Ambassador informed about the
latest achievements of Ukraine in field of air & space technologies as
well as handed over some proposals for cooperation from the
National Space Agency of Ukraine.

During the above meeting both sides were glad to find out that the
cooperation between Ukraine and Singapore has already taken place
in previous years – the Singapore “UoSat-12” mini-satellite, launched
on April 21, 1999, was put into orbit by the Ukrainian built “Dnipro”
rocket launcher known to be one of the most reliable in the world.

On September 29, 2003 Ukrainian Ambassador to Singapore had a
meeting with Mr. Tan Soo Nan, CEO, “Singapore Pools  (Pte.) Ltd.
During the long and warm talk the Sides exchanged views on
enlarging the bilateral cooperation in various fields including
traditional lotteries, knowledge games as well as sports bets, which
are gaining popularity in both countries.

A meeting with Mr. Col (Ret) Kwan Yue Yeong, CEO, Singapore Sports Council
On September 26, 2003 H.E. Dr. O. Horin was welcomed by Col (Ret) Kwan
Yue Yeong, CEO, Singapore Sports Council. During the meeting they discussed
the issues of the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in field of
sports.

Col Kwan underlined that the achievements of Ukrainian boxers, track and field
athletes, gymnasts, swimmers, soccer players are well known worldwide. That
is why both Sides agreed that enhancing our bilateral cooperation in this sphere
would not only bring the two peoples closer but promote Singapore’s sports as
well.

The Ukrainian Ambassador highly praised the modern hi-tech infrastructure of
sports facilities in Singapore and expressed hope that Singapore’s experience
will also contribute to the development of the material basis of Ukrainian sports.

Among the projects to be worked out in the nearest future stands inviting the
leading Ukrainian soccer teams to Singapore in order to have some friendly
matches with the leading Singaporean soccer teams.

A meeting with Singaporean Trade and Industry MinisterMr. George Boon Yeo
On August 19, 2003 Ukrainian Ambassador to Singapore Dr.O.Horin
had a meeting with Singaporean Trade and Industry Minister Mr.George
Boon Yeo.

During the meeting the Sides discussed the issues of enhancing bilateral
trade and economic relations in the context of the visit of H.E. Mr.
Leonid Kuchma, President of Ukraine to Singapore later this year.

Official Openning of the Embassy
The opening of the Chancery of the  Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Singapore during the  official
visit   of H.E. A.Zlenko  to  Singapore.
In the framework of his official visit to Singapore, Singapore
President S.R.Nathan received Minister for Foreign Affairs
of Ukraine Anatoliy Zlenko.

Odessa, 7-18th September 2004

Competition was conducting under patronage of the President of Ukraine, under support of the Cabinet of
Ministers of Ukraine, initiated by International corporation “Slavyanskiy bazar” and charitable organization
“International Violin Contest named after David Oistrakh", with assistance of Ministry of Culture and Arts
of Ukraine, The Odessa regional State administration, Odessa State musical academy named by A.V.
Negdanova, Odessa regional philharmonic society, and The Executive committee of Odessa City council.
The President of contest is People’s Artist of Ukraine, professor, composer Olexander Zlotnyk. The
General director of contest is Igor Kuryliv.
The contest was named after David Oistrakh and took place in Odessa. In this city the legendary maestro
was born on 30 September 1908, and there he spent 20 years of his life. He studied in special music school
and music dramatic Institute (now Academy) in class of famous violinist and a teacher Pjotr Stoljarski.     
From the very beginning the Organizational Committee received 144 application forms.  Besides them in
accordance with the participation rules should be sent СDs with works of Bach, Mozart, and Paganini
performing by - for preliminary elimination round and participation in the first round. The Advisory
Committee at the head of Oleh Krysa (USA), who was the student of David Oistrakh, admitted to the
contest 46 violinists from 14 countries, among them were Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, China, South Korea,
Germany, Russia, USA, Finland, France, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and of course Ukraine.
The competition was divided into 3 rounds. To the third round were admitted seven participants.  
The following prizes were established:

I Prize    -   15000 $, rank of laureate and Golden medal
II Prize   -   10000$, rank of laureate and Silver medal
III Prize  -   7000$, rank of laureate and Bronze medal
IV Prize  -   5000$
V Prize   -   4000$
VI Prize  -   3000$

The Jury at the head of Oleh Krysa (USA) shall have a right to award prizes to one winner or divided them
between several participants, to award the participants special prizes, such as: "The best performance of
work of Ukrainian composer that has been written specially for the contest", "The best performance on the
II tour of S. Prokof’ev and D. Shostakovich, dedicated to D. Oistrakh", "For the best Ukrainian
performer", Prize of audience sympathy, Prize of the youngest participant, and Prize of the best
accompanist.

VI Prize – was not awarded

Special prize of Boris Lyatoshinskiy fund - “The best performance of work of Ukrainian composer, that
has been written specially for the contest” (for the performance of Carpathian rhapsody for violin and
piano «In F. Liszt style» composed by Mikoslav Skoryk) was divided between MAYUKO KAMIO (Japan)
and OLEH KASKIV (Ukraine)
Special Prize of All-Russian fund “Russian performing art” – “The best performance on the II tour of S.
Prokof’ev and D. Shostakovich, dedicated to D.Oistrakh” was divided between GRACE LEE (Singapore)
and NADEGDA KORSHAKOVA (Russia)

Prize of the Ministry of art and culture of Ukraine “For the best Ukrainian performer” received OLEH
KASKIV (Ukraine)

Prize of audience sympathy received SIMON ROTURIER (France)

Prize of the youngest participator received VLADISLAVA LUCHENKO (Ukraine)
 
The first steps of David Oistrakh International violin contest in Ukraine revealed that its main organizers
International corporation “Slavyanskiy bazar” and charitable organization “International Violin Contest
named after David Oistrakh" work in right direction. A lot of foreign quests of this first competition,
members of Jury, mass media representatives, and audience in general marked the high level of contest
conducting.  The quests who represented different countries and visited a lot of worldwide festivals have
the same opinion: The First International Violin Contest named after David Oistrakh had high professional,
organizational, and performing level.
